Entry #1 Living with Uncertainty This is a first. My first “official blog.” It seems appropriate since we are in a month of firsts. Our first African American President was inaugurated on January 20th, and I don’t know about you, but I watched the ceremonies on Tuesday with great pride in our country’s courage to embrace change. I sat there with tears in my eyes and a full heart knowing that we are in for a difficult journey ahead of us in healing our country. "When nothing is sure, everything is possible." -Margaret Drabble We are living in uncertain times. But those of you, who are on this fertility journey, know about living with uncertainty. In fact the author and Buddhist Nun, Pema Chodron, wrote a book called,Comfortable with Uncertainty: 108 Teachings on Cultivating Fearlessness and Compassion. In this book she outlines the path to discover Bodhichitta or the awakened heart. The heart of this country has awakened to a new purpose with the leadership of President Barack Obama; one of service, cooperation and empowerment. This is indeed a time when nothing is sure, but many things are possible. I am going to invite you to embrace uncertainty. As if it was the best thing that ever happened to you. The concept that there are no ‘absolutes,’ freaks most of us out. If you are an A type like me, you like to feel like you “get” everything, can make it happen, can control a situation. Everything about infertility sends us into fits of uncertainty and the impulse to control our fear of the unknown, can cause us to strangle the magic of the gift that is before us. Take a moment to take a vow with me. Vow to go on a journey. One where you may not know how to get there, but the feeling of being filled with the possibility of having your deepest dreams realized and basking in the feeling of fulfillment radiates through every part of your body. Let’s vow to awaken our hearts together, to step on the path toward our own magnificence, our compassion, our understanding of why we are here. This journey, starts with a breath. Every new life starts with an in breath as it’s an invitation to life to fill us. As we begin to cultivate Bodhichitta and the Devine Feminine, we begin to learn to receive. The first way to receive is to be with what is. Now. Let’s start this year embracing no absolutes and be curious about the path ahead, as if anything is possible- because it is. |
